Advent in the Trnave Region: The scent of mead, peaceful walks, and relaxation in warm thermal water
All this awaits you in the Trnava Region during the pre-Christmas season – a place where families with children and visitors looking to slow down before the holidays will find something special.
Meet Under the City Tower
The first Advent weekend opens traditional Christmas markets in many towns and villages across the Trnava Region. In Trnava – the first free royal town – the markets take place on Trinity Square, right under the famous City Tower. They are complemented by four Advent concerts in the Church of St. James, held every Advent Sunday.
During the last Advent weekend, the celebration of Trnava’s history comes to life in a festive way. St. Nicholas Square transforms into a medieval Christmas market, where you can watch craftsmen at work, taste food cooked over an open fire, enjoy performances by medieval entertainers, or even write a Christmas message with a quill and ink.
A popular highlight is the evening lantern climb up the City Tower. Every Tuesday during Advent, visitors can join this magical tour organized by Región Trnava. After climbing 143 steps, you will be rewarded with the most beautiful view in the city.

Christmas in Noble Residences
Christmas at Holíč Castle (10–14 December) is one of the biggest attractions in the Záhorie region. Here you can experience the Advent atmosphere inside a former imperial residence of the Habsburgs.
The event is perfect for families who want to enjoy music, fairy tales, history, creative workshops, Christmas markets, castle tours, and a fairytale parade. You can explore the representative halls, the chapel, and even the mysterious underground.
In Galanta, make sure to visit the Neo-Gothic Esterházy Castle, rebuilt in 1861. It is one of the symbols of the Matúšova zem region. Today, the restored rooms host a gallery, a tourist center, and memorial rooms dedicated to singer Karol Duchoň and composer Zoltán Kodály. You will also find a unique collection of historic gramophones.
Light Experiences
Below Smolenice Castle, the pre-Christmas fairytale comes to life once again. The beekeeping garden in the Nektárie area turns into a magical place full of thousands of lights, the scent of honey, and peaceful moments.
The event Light of Christmas Night invites visitors on an evening walk through illuminated scenes – from an 18-meter Bee Tunnel of Light to a magical Wishing Tree and the talking beehive Ambroz. A live nativity scene, themed decorations, and traditional treats such as gingerbread, sauerkraut soup, and hot mead complete the festive atmosphere.
The Medolandia area in Dolná Krupá becomes a glowing fairy-tale world full of fragrances and lights.
Before Christmas and during the last December weekend, you can explore more than one hundred glowing gingerbread figures, illuminated houses, and a honey tower with flying snowflakes. Children will enjoy the talking witch, a wooden nativity scene, and the romantic Lovers’ Lane with a wishing tree.
A new attraction this year is a meadow of singing bees, adding even more Christmas magic. Until mid-January, the park near Sereď Castle shines with dozens of light installations – from a sparkling Eiffel Tower to dancing fairies and angels, all the way to the Kingdom of Horses with a golden unicorn. The popular Light Park offers a beautiful evening experience for all ages – from families to anyone who enjoys a peaceful walk or eye-catching photos.

Relax in Thermal Water
Take a break from pre-Christmas stress and enjoy a few hours of relaxation in the thermal parks of Dunajská Streda and Veľký Meder. Thanks to geothermal springs, both destinations offer a combination of warm pools, water attractions, wellness areas, and saunas.
Winter is the perfect time to unwind here – the hot thermal water keeps you warm even on freezing days. Indoor pools create a calm atmosphere, and wellness zones offer various relaxing treatments. This makes the thermal parks on Žitný ostrov an excellent choice for families and everyone seeking rest before the holiday rush.
